Communications and Marketing Assistant Director

University Communications & Marketing

Location: New Orleans, LA

Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) of University Communications and Marketing (UCM), the Communications and Marketing Assistant Director oversees complex storytelling and campaign initiatives and ensures communications align with institutional top priorities. They provide project management planning and management necessary to support the AVP and the Vice President (VP) of Public Affairs and Chief Communications Officer in tracking and achieving progress toward UCM goals. This role reinforces Tulane’s brand and reputation through writing, editing, and reviewing copy of reports, websites, and executive-level emails to the university community. The Communications and Marketing Assistant Director ensures the timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery of high-profile projects across UCM and other campus partners. They are responsible for ensuring that cross-team projects are closely directed, requirements and dependencies are identified and fulfilled, and obstacles are identified and addressed as they arise. This position will also contribute to the continuous improvement of communications processes and tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven ability to develop and direct strategic communications and marketing campaigns and plans
  • Excellent writing, editing, and content development skills with executive-level polish
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience directing cross-functional project teams
  • Expertise in project management tools and methodologies, with the ability to optimize systems for team productivity
  • Experience advising or supporting senior leaders and navigating institutional priorities
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skill

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications, marketing, public affairs, or project management
  • Demonstrated success directing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and executive-level communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in preparing in-depth reports and presentations
  • Advanced certification in communications, marketing, or project management
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex organizations
  • Familiarity with tools such as AirTable, Box, Adobe Creative Cloud, and the Microsoft Suite

Compensation Information

This position is classified as “exempt, salaried” and is assigned to pay grade 26.
